Monthly Hotel Stays in Austin: Neighborhoods, Commutes and What to Expect

Published Oct 19, 2026

The right area for a monthly hotel in Austin depends on where you will spend your days: the Airport and Southeast corridor for flyers and access downtown, North Austin and the Domain for tech jobs, and Round Rock or Georgetown for the lowest rates and a quieter base. Our Austin hotel list has 139 hotels that can fit a 30-night stay, with listed 30-night rates running from about $55 to $187 a night. Method: listed nightly rates for a 30-night stay (November 2 to December 2, 2026), collected in October 2026 from public booking pages for the 73 hotels that publish one; listed rates, not hotel-confirmed quotes.

Airport and Southeast: for flyers and downtown access

The cluster around Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and East Ben White Boulevard holds the densest group of extended-stay hotels in the city, 18 in our list alone. This area fits people who fly in and out, work downtown or in Southeast Austin, and want to stay near the airport without leaving the city. Hotels here include Extended Stay America Premier Suites Austin Airport, Candlewood Suites Austin Airport, and Staybridge Suites Austin Airport, all from our October 2026 lead list. Downtown is roughly 15 to 25 minutes by car outside rush hour; plan for more at 8 AM and 5 PM.

North Austin and the Domain: for tech jobs

If your job is at one of the campuses along North Mopac, Parmer Lane or in the Domain, stay north. The commute across Austin is the single biggest daily cost people underestimate, and I-35 through downtown is slow most of the day, not only at rush hour. The Domain and Arboretum area mixes offices, apartments and retail, with extended-stay options like Sonesta ES Suites Austin The Domain Area and Extended Stay America Suites Austin Northwest/Arboretum in our list. Lakeline, further northwest near the 183A toll, adds more choices at similar listed rates for people working in the Cedar Park tech corridor.

Round Rock and Georgetown: lower rates, quieter base

Round Rock, about 20 miles north of downtown Austin, has 19 hotels in our list on its own, one of the two largest area clusters we track. It fits people working at the employers along I-35 north, families who want quieter streets, and anyone who does not need downtown. Candlewood Suites Austin-Round Rock and Staybridge Suites Round Rock are examples from our list. Georgetown, another 15 minutes up I-35, trades a longer Austin commute for some of the lowest listed monthly rates in the area. A local detail worth knowing: the I-35 express lanes and the 183A and 45 toll roads change commute math a lot, so price the tolls into a Round Rock or Georgetown stay before you compare rates with the city.

Seasons, weather and events

Austin is hot. From June through September, afternoons run well above 90°F and often past 100°F, so a hotel with a decent pool and strong air conditioning is not a luxury on a 60-night stay. Spring and fall are the pleasant seasons and the busy ones: South by Southwest in March and Austin City Limits in October fill hotels and push rates up across the city. If your monthly stay crosses a big event week, ask the hotel whether your rate holds through it.

Getting around without a car

Austin is a car city for monthly-stay purposes. CapMetro buses and the Red Line rail cover parts of downtown and the north corridor, but most extended-stay clusters sit in areas where you will want a car. If you are relocating and plan to buy a car later, the Airport corridor and the Domain area are the easiest places to manage a few weeks on rideshare without it hurting too much.

Prices and taxes on a monthly stay

Listed 30-night rates in the Austin area ranged from about $55 to $187 a night, with a middle value near $95 across the 73 hotels that publish a 30-night rate. These are listed rates for November 2 to December 2, 2026, not hotel-confirmed quotes, and hotels confirm the final price, so always ask for the full monthly total in writing.

On taxes: Texas charges a 6 percent state hotel tax, and guests who stay 30 or more consecutive days are exempt from it, per the Texas Comptroller's FAQ checked on October 18, 2026. Austin adds its own city hotel occupancy tax on top, and the local rules on long stays are on the City of Austin's hotel occupancy tax pages. This is general information, not tax advice.

What we found

One pattern from our Austin research stands out: the city proper holds far fewer extended-stay rooms than the northern suburbs, so the "Austin hotel" that fits your budget is often in Round Rock or Cedar Park. The second pattern: where a hotel lists both a 3-night and a 30-night rate, the 30-night rate was lower at 23 of the 73 hotels, usually by less than 10 percent; many listed rates do not change with the length of stay. And just over half of the hotels in our list, 73 of 139, publish a 30-night rate online at all. In Austin you have to ask. Our list has 139 Austin-area hotels to ask, as of October 2026.
