How to Choose an Area for a Monthly Hotel Stay in Texas

Published Oct 18, 2026

Texas cities are spread out. For a stay of a month or more, the right area is the one closest to the place you go every day, not the one with the most famous name. Here is a simple way to choose.

Start with your daily place

Write down the address you will visit most days: an office, a job site, a hospital, a school, a relative. Pick hotels within a short drive of that address first. Everything else comes second.

Check the drive at the right hour

Use a map app and set the time to your real start time, on a weekday. The result can be very different from the same route at midday. Do the same for your trip home.

Check the basics near the hotel

  • A grocery store within a few minutes by car.
  • A pharmacy and a place for laundry if the hotel has none.
  • Parking at the hotel, and whether it is free for long stays.
  • Somewhere to walk or exercise.

Compare two or three areas, not ten

Pick two or three areas that pass the commute test. Then compare the hotels in each on what the monthly rate includes. You can see the areas we cover on our Dallas, Houston and Austin pages.

Keep the first week flexible

If you are not sure, book the first stay at the minimum the hotel allows, then extend once you know the commute is right. Ask the hotel how extensions work before you book.

What next

Open a city page on Monthly-Hotels.com, look at the area cards, and send your dates with the Request dates form.
